They will listen to anyone

Has anyone else seen the movie American President? Excellent movie and there is a quote within it that completely encircles why I wish to raise the bar on erotica.

"Lewis Rothschild: They don't have a choice! Bob Rumson is the only one doing the talking! People want leadership, Mr. President, and in the absence of genuine leadership, they'll listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone. They want leadership. They're so thirsty for it they'll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there's no water, they'll drink the sand.

President Andrew Shepherd: Lewis, we've had Presidents who were beloved who couldn't find a coherent sentence with two hands and a flashlight. People don't drink the sand 'cause they're thirsty. They drink the sand 'cause they don't know the difference." -Aaron Sorkin

I think that is our current problem with the erotic genre.

  1. That in the absence of decent erotica, readers will read anything that is printed.  'They're so thirsty for it they'll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there's no water, they'll drink the sand.'
  2. People read bad erotica because there is a glut of it out there, they have been hankering for it, and they do not know the difference between what is good and what is bad. Thus, they read "'cause they don't know the difference."

This is how a badly written, badly sexed novel is a NY Times and Amazon bestseller. This is why great erotic authors are barely noticed.

I do not blame the reader - as they have been hungry for erotica and are grasping on to anything the media tells them to buy. Well, let's create a wave that educates both the reader and the media.

Let's set things right.

Let's show the world what good erotica is.

Let's set the standard and give people a well-written story, with a gripping storyline, that is also filled with scrumptious sex.
