And now, for today's Backlist Monday post, I'm giving you the finale of the All They Ever Needed series: Breathe Each Other In.
These two men have been through a lot. War, overcoming a harsh past, coming out, coming to terms with their roles, and now in this final volume, they solidify their relationship in all the ways that matter. I had a heck of a time figuring out which scene to share with you. There are just so many good ones.
“So, how do you really feel about teaching in Yakima come spring?” Christian asked as they ate a dinner of strange things. Neither of them knew what half the stuff was, but they ate it anyway. Logan figured that some snooty person like his paternal grandparents would look at how they ate it and what they ate it with and probably be suitably horrified. He felt really good about that.
“Strange,” Logan admitted. “I mean, I’m excited. I’ll be graduating in six months. But at the same time, oh my god! I’m graduating in six months! People will expect me to be an adult.”
“You don’t have to be suitably grown up just because you graduated from college. I mean, I had no idea what to do which was why I joined the military.” He paused and added, “And I would not suggest that course.” Christian became very quiet which Logan recognized as him thinking very hard about what he wanted to say. “You don’t have to know right off, Logan. There’s plenty of time to figure out what to do with your degree. Or, you may decide to do something completely different. Don’t get bogged down in the ‘oh, damn, I need to make a living now’ scenario we all get. You don’t need to.” The last four words were said quietly and Logan assumed Christian must have heard about his inheritance at some point, of which Logan knew about but only in a vague way; he still was not sure how big or small the amount actually was. Until Christian kept talking. “I mean, I wouldn’t mind supporting us at all while you find yourself, love. I really wouldn’t.”
Once again, Christian took his breath away. In those few words, Logan knew he was saying he was in this for a lot longer than a few months. Leaning over, he brushed a kiss across Christian’s lips. “Thanks, baby.”
Blushing slightly, Christian nodded, leaning over to kiss him back. “What do you say we put the rest in the fridge and take a bath?”
Logan’s eyes lit up. “Yes, sir!” He bounced to his feet and grabbed the food packages, tossing the empty ones and putting the rest of their food into the fridge. “We’ll need to pick up some lager tomorrow.”
“We can do that. Maybe when we go taste-test the hot buttered rum.”
“Mmm,” Logan hummed in agreement, walking over to the Jacuzzi tub and turning on the faucets.
“Oh, this feels good,” Christian moaned, sinking into the hot water a few minutes later. Logan finished undressing and climbed in front of him, sitting down between his legs and leaning back against Christian’s chest. Instantly his boyfriend wrapped his arms around him.
“One day, I’m getting a Jacuzzi tub,” Logan murmured, relaxing.
They lay in the water, not making a sound as the water relaxed them completely. When Logan felt Christian’s lips at his neck, he smiled and accommodated by turning his head to give him more access. “I’ve been thinking,” Christian murmured softly, nipping at the spot where Logan’s neck joined his shoulder, a very sensitive area for Logan making him hiss in excitement. “You’ll be moving back here the third week of March.”
“Mmhmm,” Logan responded lazily.
“And that’s only three months away.”
Christian’s arms tightened around him. “What would you think about moving in together at that point?”
Logan’s eyes flashed open as Christian’s words resounded in his head.
“You don’t have to answer right now,” Christian assured him. “In fact, I don’t want you to. I’ve been thinking of it for weeks, actually. Of asking you to move in with me once school ended. I realize this probably sounds sudden to you as it’s the first time you’re hearing anything about it, but—”
Logan flipped over and kissed him, which he had found to be the most effective way of shutting up his boyfriend when he began to prattle on because he was nervous. Lifting up his hand, he smoothed Christian’s hair off of his face as he pulled back to look him in the eyes. “Do you think I haven’t considered it?” he asked ruefully. “I mean, when I’m home, I sleep at your place anyway. Lately I realized I use my parents place just to keep my overabundance of clothes. Let’s face it,” he teased. “They would not fit at your place.”
He kissed him again, slowly, languid in his motions as he pressed his body up against Christian’s to where they touched almost everywhere from lips to toes. Pulling back slightly, he smiled. “We’re also starting our relationship down a more intense path, which requires more commitment. Yes, Christian. I would love to move in with you.” A low chuckle rippled up his throat as Christian wrapped his legs around Logan’s waist.
“Are you sure?” Christian asked in a husky voice.
